Methodology

Seven signals AI engines actually use

These map to how AI retrieval works: what gets extracted, what gets quoted, and what gets attributed back to a source.

01

Stat Density

Numbers, percentages, dollar amounts, and specific figures. AI is far more likely to cite a claim backed by a data point than a vague assertion. "Most companies" is ignorable. "73% of companies" is citable.

02

Quotable Claims

Declarative sentences that can stand alone without context. When AI generates a response, it pulls self-contained statements. Sentences that require surrounding paragraphs to make sense don't get quoted.

03

FAQ Structure

Question-based headings and Q&A sections. AI search responses are built around queries. Content structured as questions maps directly to what people type into ChatGPT and Perplexity. This is the fastest win for citation frequency.

04

Heading Clarity

Specific, descriptive section headers. AI uses headings to understand what a section covers before deciding if it's relevant to a query. "Introduction" tells AI nothing. "How to Set Up API Authentication in 10 Minutes" is extractable context.

05

Date Freshness

Year references and recency signals. AI retrieval systems weight recent content. Content with no year references reads as undated. Content that says "as of 2025" signals both relevance and authority to AI crawlers.

06

Named Entities

Specific brands, tools, people, and organizations. Generic language reduces cite-ability. "A CRM platform" is forgettable. "Salesforce" and "HubSpot" give AI context to match your content to specific branded queries.

07

Structured Data

Bullet lists, numbered steps, and comparison tables. AI extracts structured formats more reliably than dense prose. A five-point list of considerations is more citable than the same five points buried in two paragraphs. Comparison tables are directly surfaced in AI responses.
